Ex-commissioner wants Anambra declared disaster area

By Sunny Igboanugo

Former Commissioner for Women Affairs in Anambra State, Mrs. Bridget Obi, has asked the Federal Government to declare the state a disaster area due to the level of destruction when hoodlums carried out their nefarious act a fortnight ago.

Obi said the government must make the pronouncement and immediately commence the reconstruction of all the structures damaged in the three-day mayhem.

She said no solution could be found to the crisis in the state unless the present actors were removed from the political scene.

Arguing that the crisis was the penalty the state and the entire country must pay for the injustice meted out to the former Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju, she said peace would continue to elude the state till justice was done.

“I believe that it is the God of Mbadinuju that stood all these way because they bit the finger that fed them. It was the 406 car that Mbadinuju gave Ngige that he used to go and collect the PDP flag to run for the governorship election. Mbadinuju contained all of them then”, she said.

“If Mbadinuju returns now all of them will leave Ngige because Ngige doesn’t have any follower. Mbadinuju has the grassroots support,” she said.

She argued that the only problem Mbadinuju had was that he took on many projects at the same time that took a toll on the state’s lean resources.

Obi said if recalling Mbadinuju is impossible, the Federal Government should remove both Ngige and Uba from the scene and install a neutral person to run the state and conduct the local government election, adding that to conduct the election under the present volatile atmosphere would be an invitation to more chaos.
