The sorry state is the same for all bookshops from Sokoto to Uyo. Therefore, ‘to rescue the book’, it is important that all journalists across the nation - TV, Radio, Newspapers involved in forums like presidential media chat, personality pages, celebrities talkshows etc in whatever language  should always include questions like: What is your favourite (Nigerian) book? What is your favourite quote? What book are you reading now? President Clinton was asked these questions by his interviewers: William Styion, Carlo Fuentes and Gabriel Marquez  and they were dazed as he quoted passages from his favourites: Marcus Airelius Meditations Cervantes’ Don Quixote and Faulkner’s Absalom! Absalom! As a leader, busy though he was, he still read.
