UNFPA Promotes Reproductive Health In Four States With N8b

UNDER its 5th country programme, the United Nations Fund for Population Advocacy (UNFPA) plans to spend N8 billion in the health sector of four states in Nigeria.
The body's Programme Adviser in Katsina State, Mr. Samaila Ahmed, said that the fund was part of UNFPA intervention initiative to boost healthcare delivery in the affected states.
He spoke alongside the state's Commissioner for Information, Culture and Home Affairs, Mr. Haro Mashi at a press conference of UNFPA's activities in Katsina.
Mashi said that the programme which commenced last year with a life span of five years was being pursued vigorously to improve the reproductive health of women in the state.
It provides relevant information and facilities to control infant and maternal mortality.
The programme is also aimed at checking the spread of diseases and infection related to reproductive health, provision of quality family life and assist the states to plan population to enhance economic growth.
The commissioner further said under the reproductive health scheme 50 clinic providers had been trained on provision of rural health services at minimal cost.
He said that training was also conducted for 40 nurses and midwives on Visco Virgina Fistola (VVF) repairs. Trainees were drawn from the four participating states - Sokoto, Kebbi, Kano and Katsina.
On Family Life Education, Mashi said that 20 secondary schools in Katsina State were selected for its pilot stage.
