Poor Accomodation for Enyimba in Tunisia
From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja, 12.04.2004
Efforts to ensure Enyimba International of Nigeria fail in its bid to win the Confederation of African Football Champions League back to back continued in Monastri Tunisia, yesterday when the team arrived only to discover that there was no welcome party or adequate accommodation provided. The Club Chairman, Chief Felix Anyansi, in a telephone chat complained that the frustrations which started in Nigeria by the Tunisian Embassy and continued when on arrival there were no officials to receive them and no transportation provided to convey them to their hotel. He described the hotel accomodation reserved for them as below standard. Journalists and supporters were however, made to take over the hotel while Enyimba incurred additional cost by getting a better accomodation for the players and team officials. He described the situation as an attempt to frustrate the success of Enyimba as they confront Etoile du Sahel in today's Champions League first leg tie in the cold city of Sousse. In a related development, Nigeria Football Association (NFA) added salt to injury when the Secretary General, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi told Enyimba officials that NFA has been advised by CAF to hands off the organisation of the second leg in Abuja, stressing that Enyimba is to bear the entire cost for the hosting of the match. An official of Enyimba told THISDAY that the club was used to being abandoned by NFA and so nothing was new. He however assured that Enyimba would host the best finals ever to shame its distractors.
