Monday, December 06 2004 Vol 13 No.44 News Editorial Opinion Labour Politics Sports Features Columnists Business Money/Market Energy Alaba Market View From America MASSOB warns sponsors of Anambra mayhem FELIX UKA, Awka MOVEMENT for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), yesterday warned those behind the November mayhem in Anambra State that the group would not fold its hands and watch further assault on the state. The MASSOB National Director of Mobilisation, Mr. Sam Ike, handed down the warning while briefing newsmen in Agulu, Anambra State. He also tasked the Federal Government to immediately commence rebuilding and replacing of the damaged facilities, as well as pay compensation to victims of the mayhem. Similar appeal, it would be recalled, had come from the Awka Council of Traditional Rulers. Mr. Ike warned that MASSOB would confront the perpetrators if they dare touch property and facilities in the state again. The MASSOB director, who was in the state to inaugurate the women wing of the body, said after its last August 26 stay-at-home protest, the group has gone back to the drawing board to plan for its next step. Members of the group, he said, were not going to participate in the 2007 elections, saying they have no stake in the Nigerian project. "The insinuation that we had stepped down is false. We are not afraid of any clampdown by the Nigerian Federal Government, I have been in detention for 17 times, so what will I be afraid of? Dying for my people is more beneficial than dying of cowardice." "The Federal Government is behind the terrorism in Anambra State.
