Ibori has no refinery in S. Africa - Delta govt

    CAJETAN MMUTA, Awka

DELTA State government yesterday denied that Governor James Onanefe Ibori has a refinery in South Africa.

Commissioner for Finance, Chief David Edevbie told newsmen in Asaba, the state capital, that the Ibori’s administration was rather poised to encourage private investors’ partnership with the state government to establish private refineries in the state.

Chief Edevbie frowned at the activities of anti-government who are bent on smearing the governor’s image.

According to the commissioner, Ibori has no refinery; neither does he have interest in any refinery in South Africa or in any part of the world, stressing that the allegation was baseless considering the amount needed to build a refinery.

The commissioner wondered where the governor could have gotten the huge money required to build a private refinery in such a far away country, adding that "even all the Federal Government’s allocations to the state since 1999 to date are not enough to build a private refinery."

He said there were four refineries in South Africa with relevant information about them on the Internet for any one in doubt to access to know their owners and shareholders.

"You can make your own enquiry how much does it (refinery) take, how much has the state received since 1999 and how much does a refinery cost. Let’s try to use our reasoning faculty sometimes. Even if the governor had been pocketing everything, could he have had enough to build or buy a refinery?", he asked.

He stated that since the inception of the present administration, the state has been meeting the yearnings and aspirations through the prompt payment of salaries and execution of projects.
