Govt to Build 540 Houses

Apart from 749 housing units nearly completed in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, additional 20 housing units would be constructed in each of the 27 local government councils across the State. However, in its bid to launch of the Poverty Alleviation Programme, Borno State Government has distributed some materials to alleviate the sufferings of its citizens. Governor, Ali Sheriff , has expressed readiness of his government to ensure that the accommodation problem reduced to a minimal in the State, hence, construction of 540 housing units in complete 27 local government areas of the State. He said, it became imperative to ease the accommodation problem, adding that government would not relent in its effort good shelter for all. Sheriff, dropped the hint during his tour of 10 local government councils of the northern part of the State, to inspect the site for the housing project, as well, to launch Poverty Alleviation Programme. "The 20 housing units in all the 27 local government councils will reduce the accommodation problem at various council;"he emphasised. Sheriff, had, during the tour distributed poverty alleviating materials, such as motorcyclesw, sewing machines, and bicycles. He said the gesture is to motivate the teeming youths in various councils to be self-employed, to train them to be self-dependent. He promised that the government will give loans to the trainees after the training so that they can take care of themselves. At Monguno Local Government Council, the Chairman, Alhaji Shugaba Umara, said, the council spent over nine million naira to connect the national grid to the area. He also said the council, in its move to provide potable drinking water, has sunk cement wells at Abba Ajiri,Njiwa,Mangal,Bulabulin among others. On internal revenue generation,Umara said the council constructed cattle loading crash at the area; loading has since started. He appealed to the governmenbt to assist the council in constructing the essential roads with good drainages as the area is completely inaccessible during rainy season. "The local goverment council spends substantial amount annualy in levelling the township roads.The council, implores your Excellency to consider our plight and assist us in constructing the essential roads with drainages." "We are also appealing to direct construction of skills acquisition centre in Monguno.The Council is determined to provideland for construction of the centre;"he concluded.
