Education is priority to all govts Shekarau

By ADAMU ABDULLAHI

GOVERNOR Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano state has observed that education is a prerequisite for building a better and virile society.

Malam Shekarau made the observation while laying the foundation stone of a N400 million girls secondary school at Argungu, Kebbi state.

The governor described the provision of education to the people as a priority to any responsible government, adding that educated and enlightened society always goes with rapid development currently taking place in the world.

He noted that his administration has made it a policy to ensure provision of functional and qualitative education at all levels.

Malam Shekarau further stated that his administration has since embarked on structural rehabilitation of educational system in the state, while it strengthens the capabilities of the various agencies that have direct bearing on the people.

He reaffirmed that apart from the rehabilitation of education sector, his administration has also accorded top premium to the health-care delivery and security of lives and properties of its citizens.

The governor argued that when these basic requirements of life are provided and justice, accountability and prudence are attained, a peaceful society would be realized and development would certainly follow.

The Kano governor, meanwhile has praised the Kebbi state governor, Alhaji Adamu Aliero for giving emphasis on educational development, saying this would make the area develop as he called on the government to be more committed to the ideals of modernization.

On his part, the Kebbi state governor, Alhaji Adamu Aliero disclosed that on assumption of office in 1999, his administration has focused attention on the development of education.

He stressed that part of the feat recorded include upward review of the student feeding allowance in boarding schools, and construction of five new girls secondary schools in order to meet up the pressing demand of education in the state.

Aliero stated that the effort of the government in raising the standard of education in the state has since started yielding positive results, particularly considering the outcome of the students examination results released recently.

Governor Shekarau during the Kebbi visit, paid a courtesy call on the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Muhammadu Samaila Mera, where he expressed his delight for the warm and cordial relationship existing between the people of Kebbi and Kano states.

In his response, the emir thanked him for the visit which according to him, would strengthen the already existing relations between the two states.
