MONDAY , DECEMBER, 6, 2004           Zainab Shekarau donates to disabled The wife of Kano state governor, Hajiya Zainab Ibrhaim Shekarau, has restated government�s determination towards investing in the development of human resources. Hajiya Zainab was speaking when she presented donation of working materials to Nigerian Association of Disabled (Guragu), Kano state branch,, at their workshop along Katsina Road, last week. She expressed delight at the presentation of the sum of N30,000 eight bundles of cloting material 8 bundles of wrappers and two sewing machines, that the products produced by the association which include beds chairs and wheel chairs were very encouraging, calling on other associations to emulate them. In her remark, the commissioner of women affairs, Dr. Gaji Fatima Dantata said the association�s activities of engaging themselves in the production of such important goods is in-line with the present administration�s determination to provid conducive atmosphere to all in order to become self -reliant. Dr. Dantata said her ministry will forward the request of the association for a permanent office to the governor for consideration. Responding, the Special Adviser on Special duties (Women), Hajiya Mairiga Mahadi, said the activities of the association was in consonance with the state Societal Reorientation programme, where baying and idleness are discouraged. In a welcome address, the chairman of the association, Alhaji Abdu Rabo Hashim, said apart from engaging in self reliant activities, his association has taken active part in enlightening the general public on polio immunization which the last exercise recorded a tremendous success. Alhaji Rabo thanked the wife of the governor for the gesture and solicited the support of the ministry of women affairs towards eradicating begging in the state.
