MONDAY , DECEMBER, 6, 2004           ... improving the down trodden KANO state government under the able leadership of Malam Shekarau has been commended for improving the lot of the less-privileged citizens. The commendation was made by a new breed politician in Nasssarawa local government area, Alhaji Ado Garba Gawuna, in a chat with Daily Triumph recently. According to him the human development policy initiated by the governor could be seen as a great weapon to defeat his political. opponents. He cited the settlement of outstanding debts of pensioners, reinstament of wrongly dismissed civil servants tackling the issue of national housing fund and other people-oriented projects as having rated the governor high. Alhaji Gawuna further enumerated projects executed by the governor since he assumed office as the constructions of Bama, Zungeru, Dakata and Festing roads, renovation of hospitals and schools as a good example of leadership. He therefore called on local government chairmen to emulate the examplary work of the governor in the upliftment of living standard of the electorate. Alhaji Gawuna expressed dismay over the low-performance of some local governments whom he accused of inability to deliver what was expected of them such as even distribution of social amenities. On the just-concluded unity forum organized by 19 northern state governors in Kaduna, Alhaji Gawuna expressed optimism that the forum would yield positive results.
