Globacom launches Vehicle Tracking Service Globacom, the second national telecommunications operator has launched “Fleet-Manager”, a vehicle tracking device that enables companies to monitor their vehicles on the Glo Mobile network. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Glo FleetManager uses global positioning system (GPS) and a compact device installed in the vehicle to determine the exact location of a vehicle. Speaking at the launch of the service, the group director of marketing and strategy of Globacom, Mr Subhra Das, said that the technology “provides instant and accurate information on the location of vehicles at any time of the day.” “The information is analysed by advanced tracking software and it generates reports on user-defined parameters such as over-speeding, emergency alerts, vehicle idling and harsh-braking,’’ he explained. According to him, to pinpoint the exact location of the vehicle, the location data received through the GPS receiver is transmitted via the Glo Mobile network to the tracker server through short message service (SMS). Das said that FleetManager “offers a lot of features which are not available on normal tracking service and which gives greater accuracy on vehicle location by narrowing it down to street level.” MORE ON BUSINESS...
