GOVERNOR
Bola Tinubu of Lagos yesterday extolled the virtues of Vice-President Atiku
Abubakar National vice-chairman (South-West) of the Alliance for Democracy (AD)
Alhaji Olatunji Hamzat and urged other politicians to learn from their humility.
Speaking during the public
presentation of the book: "There reflections of a public man", written
by Alhaji Hamzat, the governor described the author as a great leader that is
"fiercely loyal and committed to democratic values".
He said Alhaji Hamzat as a true
democrat has scarified a lot for the development of democratic institutions in
the country.
According to him "the
success of such political organisations as Primerose and Justice Forum is
attributable to the flexibility and leadership qualities of Alhaji-Hamazat".
Gov. Tinubu compared Alhaji
Hamzat with Vice-president Atiku, saying they were both men of high moral
standard, integrity, humility, very transparent and committed to the Nigerian
nation.
He called on other Nigerian
political leaders to imbibe these qualities as exemplified by the two men.
The book’s reviewer, Dr. Kunle
Lawal, who is also the Commissioner for Education, commanded the efforts of
Alhaji Hamzat and said the 12-chapter book truly captured the life of the
author.
Vice-president Atiku who was
represented by Chief Akin Kereke-Ekun on the occasion said the author has made a
mark in the political arena.
Said he: "if Alhaji Hamzat
has really contributed so much to the development of political institutions and
democratic values then he could as well be described as an icon of the Nigerian
nation".
Speaking on the motive behind his
writing the book, Alhaji Hamzat said he realised that "life is a journey
and at 72, I have nothing left to do but to reflect on the experience of my
life".
He explained that the book was written as his own
personal statement of life so that others may read and learn adding that
"it was a personal observation of events presented truly as
perceived".
