Since the re-instatement of Chief Joshua Clibi Dariye, the suspended governor of Plateau state, he has not cleared himself from the allegations of financial impropriety leveled against him by the federal government.
Presently, Dariye still enjoys immunity based on section 308 (2) of the 1999 constitution, which gives him protection from prosecution now.
He should be ready to face the law court whenever he leaves the government house. For Dariye’s sympathizers, who are saying that Dariye is not the only governor with the allegations of financial impropriety, the onus lies on them to prove that other governors have financial skeleton in their cupboards.
Those Dariye sympathizers should come to Plateau state to see for themselves the level of poverty and the impoverished people.
Let the Joshua of our time tell us what developmental projects he executed with the people’s money he collected from the federation account, from the year 1999 to date. For the members of the Plateau state House of Assembly, they have a duty to investigate all the allegations levelled against the governor, and make a proper pronouncement on the issue, which has been generating a lot at brouhaha. But if for reasons, best known to them they refuse to investigate the matter, then history shall have a date with them for aiding and abetting corruption in our dear state. Unless if the Plateau state House of Assembly want, us to believe that it is parts and parcel of the largesse.
If the honourable members are saying that Dariye is not the only governor accused of financial impropriety, they should bear in mind that “two wrongs do not make a right”.
Because other governors were involved in financial impropriety, does not give Dariye the mandate to siphon government money. One issue I would like Dariye to clarify is, is it true that you got a Ghanaian passport which you travelled to Nigeria with? How did you come about it? And if it is true, when did you start enjoying a dual citizenship?
Our leaders should strive to make peace when ever they find themselves in corridors of power, bearing in mind that he who murders sleep will have his eyes open too.
