AD warns against conversion of state secretariat
From Isa Abdulsalami,
Jos
THE Alliance for Democracy (AD), in Plateau State has raised an alarm over moves by some politicians to convert the party's state secretariat into a factional office of another political party.
The party alleged that the plan was spearheaded by a bigwig of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), who had allegedly paid the sum of N3 million to effect the take-over any time this week.
At a press conference addressed jointly by its state acting chairman, Mr. Yohanna Ajik, and the state Public Relations Officer (PRO), Chief Toye Ogunshuyi, the AD said it was aware that the PDP chieftain had given N1.7 million to ensure that all the AD structures in the 17 councils were converted to the use of the factional group.
This move, according to AD, would only "introduce another round of mayhem as witnessed in the past".
In a statement after the conference, Ajik said: "What has become of paramount interest to us in this matter is the diabolical attempt by these politicians to convert our state secretariat to a factional state office at another party."
He warned that any attempt to confiscate the AD secretariat would be met with "stiff resistance".
The chairman said the idea behind "all this move is to introduce another round of mayhem as witnessed in the past where thousands of innocent lives were lost.
AD welcomed the restoration of democratic structures in the state, calling on its supporters to remain calm even in the face of intimidation.
