THE Special Assistant to Kano State Governor on Public Relations and Media Matters, Alhaji Sule Yau Sule on Monday denied a report credited to some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the governor had obtained a loan of $38.5 million.
According to the allegation, Governor Shekarau had sealed the deal during a recent foreign trip.
But the arrow-head of the allegation and Defence Minister, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, did not stop with the loan allegation.
Flanked by some chieftains of the PDP, Kwankwaso accused the Shekarau-led administration of hoodwinking the people of the state with religion while abdicating the judicious use of the over N3 billion monthly allocation to the state meant for the welfare of the people".
While reacting, Sule, who faulted the allegation, maintained that it was the "handiwork of the governor's detractors".
The governor's aide further remarked that the idea of obtaining a foreign loan runs contrary to the state government's principles of accountability and transparency.
"We have a responsible government in place which conducts its affairs in line with the principles of accountability and transparency. Even the PDP government, with all its shortcomings did not collect loan", Sule said.
He added that the recent foreign trip to Argentina by Shekarau was at the instance of the President, stressing that it was aimed at exposing the country's administrators and politicians, including officials of the Debt Management Office (DMO) to the techniques of managing debts.
He maintained the state government was yet to obtain a foreign loan, adding that the governor was part of the team that understudied how Argentina, with a debt overhang of over $180 billion, was managing its economy efficiently.
On allegation that the state government had not done enough to improve the lot of the people of the state, he said: "Go round the state and see the good work of the governor. We have been providing roads, potable water and electricity to our people. We have been administering our resources prudently".
