Udeh may replace Okonkwo in Enyimba's midfield
- Team camps at Nicon Hilton
By Christian Okpara
FORMER Gabros of Onitsha star, Demian Udeh, who came in as a late substitute during Saturday's Champions League final's first leg match between Etoile Of Tunisia and Enyimba in Sousse, may replace suspended midfielder, Onyekachi Okonkwo, in the final match of the championship billed for Abuja on Sunday.
Indication to that effect was noticed yesterday during the team's second training session, where Udeh paired Aliu Musa in the probable side, which had most of the first team regulars.
Yesterday's training, handled by Coaches Okey Emordi and Stanley Eguma, concentrated mostly on build-up towards attack and support play, with Udeh, David Tyvkase and Aliu doing most of the probings, while Emeka Nwana, Ndidi Anumnu and Eric Fascindo were drilled on 'switch play,' which one of the team's officials said was to check Etoile's anticipated defensive formation.
Speaking with The Guardian on phone after watching the team's training session, Enyimba's spokesman, Tony Chukwu, assured the team's supporters that the 'People's Elephants' were capable of overturning the one goal advantage held by Etoile, saying that the coaches were working hard to present a solid team against the Tunisians on Sunday.
"Since the team returned to Nigeria, they have been working round the clock to fine-tune their strategy for the second leg. The match will not be an easy one; we know that, and so, we are not resting on our oars.
"All we need from our supporters and Nigerians generally are prayers and other support they can give us. We promise that, by the grace of God, we will not let them down," Chukwu said.
Meanwhile, the team has chosen Abuja NICON Hilton as their camp for the all-important second leg of the Champions League final.
The Guardian gathered that the choice of the secluded high brow hotel was in consideration of the players' comfort.
A source in the team's camp disclosed that the coaches demanded for either Abuja Sheraton Hotel or NICON Hilton, which they believed were adequate for comfort and concentration, which other hotels may not have.
"The need for a peaceful and quiet atmosphere to build a winning team decided the camp's venue. You know, the team needs no disturbance now. So, the management decided to ensure that they are camped in a secluded place.
"Any visitor, who has no genuine reason to visit the players or officials, will be turned back by the security details for the match. We are begging friends and relations of the players to allow them to concentrate on the task ahead, because if we win the trophy, there will be enough reason to celebrate," he said.
