... As Globacom makes grand entry

GLOBACOM, one of the leading sports sponsors in the country, scored a big one on Saturday when it made a grand entry into the Kaduna International Polo as the major sponsor of the most prestigious tournament.

The telecommunications outfit, which is presenting one of the cups for the tournament, was honoured by the Kaduna Polo family which transferred title ownership of the former Kaduna BBG to now become Kaduna Glo. The team has high goalers like Ali Birjawi, Ibrahim Babangida, Tijani Hassan and Ali Hassan.

Though there are some other categories of sponsors at the tournament, it is the Glo Cup that is attracting most interest. Most of the players have hailed the involvement of Globacom in the game, saying the entry through Kaduna is most befitting.

Some of the top players who spoke on the sponsorship expressed satisfaction with the N50m five-year contract and urged the firm to spread the Glo brand to other Polo clubs in the country.

"With the entry of Globacom into Polo, I think we are about to witness a quantum leap in the value of Polo sponsorship fees. The game is set for the next level," said Ali Hassan.

Over 26 teams are competing for the different prizes in the tournament.

Globacom will sponsor a gala night on the final day, Saturday, December 11 during which important state officials, the royal fathers and top sports administrators will be in attendance.
