Trade Bank gets new MD
A NEW Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer has been appointed by Trade Bank Plc. He is Mr. Tunji Adeniyi, a former executive director at Omega Bank Plc.
Adeniyi's appointment by the bank's board and subsequent approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) came on the heels of the recent retirement of Mr. Samuel Kolawole, the former managing director.
Prior to Adeniyi's assumption of office, the General Manager and the most senior management worker of the bank, Mr. Jamiu Ekungba, co-ordinated the activities of the bank.
The new Trade Bank boss, who has since assumed duty, is a 1983 Agricultural Economics graduate of the University of Ibadan and holder of an MBA degree of the University of Lagos (1985) with specialisation in finance and accounting.
With over 18 years banking experience, Adeniyi started his banking career in 1986 when he joined IMB International Bank as an analyst and rose to the level of assistant manager when he left in 1989. He continued his career at Allstates Trust Bank Limited, which he joined as deputy manager and rose to assistant general manager. He was also a member of the bank's strategy committee.
In 1995, Adeniyi moved to Omega Bank Plc as an assistant general manager and divisional head. He was also a member of the bank's directorate council. Two years later, he was promoted deputy general manager (1997) and got promoted a year later to the rank of general manager.
In 1998, he was re-designated vice president for Lagos and northern networks and was discharging this duty until February 2000, when he was appointed executive director.
For management and leadership development courses, Adeniyi was educated at the Harvard Business School, Lagos Business School and the International Development Institute, Dublin, Ireland in addition to numerous others both within and outside the country.
A member of many professional bodies, Adeniyi is an honourary senior member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN); member, Institute of Directors; member, Nigeria Institute of Management and the Chartered Institute of Marketing of Nigeria. He is also a member of the Commonwealth Business Council, as well as a member of the governing council of the Financial Institutions Training Centre up till March 2004.
