Reforms Necessary for Economic Growth - Atiku

Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said Federal Government would ensure necessary reforms in order to reposition the country for meaningful economic growth and improved welfare of the people. The Vice President spoke in Zing, Taraba State at a civic reception held in honour of Governor Jolly Nyame and the launching of N500,000,000 Mumuye Education Endowment Fund. According to him, the reform agenda of Federal Government was necessary even though they appear to be stiff but intended to change the future of the country. His words: Of course, these reforms are stiff but without them we would be further mortgaging our future and that of our children thereby making our society more vulnerable and more dangerous.” Atiku said some states have had their funding increased by Federal Government to ensure optimum performance. He disclosed that government in collaboration with Taraba State representatives at the National Assembly has mapped out programmes in the 2005 Budget for the state, noting Federal Government’s continued support to the state. The Vice President, who described Nyame as principled, loyal, focused and dedicated gentleman who has worked to bring succour to his people, called on the people of the state to cooperate with his administration to chat a new cause for the state. In his remarks, Nyame said the decision by the Mumuye community to honour him with the title of (Lantang) has tremendous impact on his commitment to democracy and good governance. Nyame noted that the honour done him has further reawakened his social and political responsibility in mobilising human and material resources for the development of the state.
