A group known as Plateau Peace Movement for the
Sustenance of Democracy (PPMSD) has called on the state assembly to
investigate the allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Joshua
Dariye.
Briefing newsmen in Abuja, the chairman of the group, Mr.
Solomon Dalung, said that the assembly had failed to acknowledge receipt of
its petition dated November 24, 2004 on the investigation of the allegations
against the governor.
Instead, a few days after the submission, two moves have
been made to challenge our action which we consider legitimate and
democratic, he stated.
He said that a group named Re-Engineering Youth
Alliance had urged the assembly to ignore the petition and further
appealed to the federal and state security agencies to hold the organisation
responsible for any breach of law and order in the state.
.Dalung threatened that the group would not hesitate to
commence recall process against principal officers of the state if its
request was not granted.
He said that the petition contained seven allegations
against the governor which included money laundering, false declaration of
assets, transfer of large sums of money to foreign banks and violation of
section 14 (4) of the 1999 constitution.
We are accusing him of lackadaisical attitude to state
security, he said, adding: Anything short of him being investigated would
not be acceptable.
He said that the group believed that the credibility
problem of the governor was capable of throwing the state into another
round of crisis, adding that if found guilty, the assembly should commence
impeachment proceedings against him.
Dalung accused the state government of masterminding a
document purportedly written by the group and addressed to Deputy Senate
President, Alhaji Ibrahim Mantu, where it threatened to destroy some
edifices in the state.
He urged the federal government to investigate and fish
out the writers of the document, adding that the Inspector-General of Police
should provide adequate security for the edifices in the state to avoid a
repeat of what happened in the state in 2002.
Dalung however failed to comment on the face-off between
the governor and Mantu, saying, both Mantu and the governor have been
assisting each other to win elections and that what was going on between
them was misunderstanding and not disagreement.
