WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2004           Dialysis unit for Zamfara Federal Medical Centre Zamfara State Government is set to establish a dialysis unit at the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau, says the director of the centre, Dr Nasiru Sa'id. Sa'id told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau that Governor Ahmad Sani made the pledge recently, when the management of the hospital paid him a courtesy visit. The Zamfara government would provide the dialysis machines, he said, while the hospital's management would provide buildings and manpower. ``When the unit commences operation, it will reduce the hardship encountered by patients, who have to travel to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano for treatment,'' he said. Meanwhile, the centre recently dismissed one laboratory staff and suspended another for collecting N100 gratification from a patient. Sa'id said the punishments would serve to warn that ``the management will not fold its arms and allow bad eggs to dent the good image of the centre.'' According to the medical director, ``the centre has reduced its consultancy fees for children by 50 per cent. ``The gesture is aimed at assisting the less-privileged members of our society.''
