WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2004           Kachia barracks undergoes rehabilitation The Presidential Committee on Barracks Rehabilitation (PCBR) has awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of the Nigerian Army Barracks in Kachia, Kaduna state. Handing over the projects to 33 contractors in Kachia, the chairman of the committee, Alhaji Sani Gidado warned that the committee would not hesitate to revoke any poorly executed contract. Gidado said that all the contractors were expected to start work immediately to enable them complete their projects on schedule. ``You are expected to complete your work within the next 12 weeks or face revocation,'' he assured. Also speaking, Army Headquarters representative in the committee, Col. Adebayo Olaniyi said any contractor that executed a shoddy job would not be paid. ``We will not accept bad contracts. It is either you do a quality contract and be paid, or you do a bad work and have your valuation withheld,'' Olaniyi said. NAN reports that contracts awarded in Kachia included the rehabilitation of seven blocks of 3-bedroom married officers quarters, rehabilitation of the commandant's house, boys quarters and the perimeter fence. Others were the rehabilitation of six blocks of 12-family corporals and below quarters, eight blocks of twin 2-bedroom senior non-commission officers quarters and three blocks of 3-bedroom regimental sergeant majors quarters. Also to be rehabilitated were six-blocks of 6-man single room officers' hostel, five blocks of students' dormitory, provision and installation of HT/LT lines and transformer sub-stations to powerhouse and back to the quarters. The barracks, which was established in 1976, was abandoned for a longtime due to dilapidated structures.
