Admiral Agbiti told the military court in Lagos that he did not sign the document authorising the release of the MT African Pride as claimed by some witnesses. He also said he prevented the ship from being released to other parties. Admiral Agbiti was testifying over the matter which had continued to attract national attention. Only last Wednesday, the Commanding Officer (CO) of NNS Nwamba, Navy Capt. Joe Aikhomu told the court that the ship which disappeared last August was a fake one. MT African Pride was arrested after allegedly being used for illegal bunkering in the nation’s waters. According to Navy Capt. Aikhomu, when he arrested MT African Pride, he discovered that the ship’s original name, MT Jade, had been slightly cleared off and MT African Pride substituted on it.
