According to a statement signed by Media Assistant to the senator, Sola Ajayi, Afikuyomi condemned the president’s selection of only Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members. "How can only the president’s party men design a way for all the political parties in the country on how to go about their party business when all the parties do not share the same political ideologies? A committee of eight people headed by Governor Ahmed Makarfi of Kaduna State and other PDP chieftains including Prof. Jerry Gana, Gov. Olusegun Agagu of Ondo State, Senator Udo Udoma, Prof. Aliu Yahaya and Chief Cornelius Adebayo, will only bring out what the ruling PDP government wants to read" he said. Afikuyomi decried the failure of the committee to attract reputable Nigerians such as elder statesman Chief Anthony Enahoro, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN), Mr Femi Falana, whom he said, "would have positively contributed immensely to whatever decision the committee arrives at".
