Ige House scam: Hitches in bail application
for suspects

A technical hitch in the bail
application submitted by lawyers to the three accused persons in the N126
million Bola Ige House contract scam trial has stalled their bail.
The
suspects are the former Secretary to the Osun State Government (SSG), Chief
Sola Akinwumi, Finance Commissioner, Chief Lere Adebayo and Architect Lanre
Oladeji.
The trial magistrate, Jide Falola, however, adjourned
the case for the third time, to next Wednesday to determine whether or not to
grant them bail.
This is coming as members of the Alliance for
Democracy (AD) were yesterday attacked outside the court room by some hoodlums
suspected to be supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Alliance for Democracy (AD) supporters had converged
outside the court in solidarity with the accused persons.
The secretariat of the party had last week, raised
alarm of possible attack on its members by the supporters of the ruling PDP.
The Party Director of Publicity Mr Sunday Akere said
shortly after the court adjourned to Wednesday, some hoodlums launched attack
on members of the AD where they converged to give solidarity to their members.
It took the intervention of anti-riot policemen who
were stationed at strategic locations in the court premises to disperse
supporters of the two parties.
At yesterday’s sitting, the prosecuting lawyer,
Otunba Kalejaye told the court that a copy of the bail application which the
defendant’s lawyers was expected to serve him before Friday, was received
late contrary to the agreement reached at the previous sitting.
He explained that the development was responsible for
his inability to prepare his reply to the applications.
In his ruling, Magistrate Jide Falola said the order for deconsolidation could not be
granted saying “the court must not be seen as going forward and backward
at the same time. The case is hereby adjourned till Wednesday.”
