Lagos Trafigura beat Kaduna Malta for Dickenson Cup
Lagos Trafigura proved its mettle as one of the most
outstanding teams in the on-going Malta Guiness Kaduna International polo
tournament when they emerged winner of the prestigous high goal Dickenson Cup.
The team had defeated home team Kaduna Malta 5-2 to lift the tropy.
The five Chukka, action-packed matchproved to be more
than the money worth for the numerous spectators that thronged the polo turf as
each team struggled to outplay the opposing side and score. Outstanding in play
was Argentine import, Gustava Flores, who scored two of the goals for the
winning team- including the last goal which he scored in the dying minute of
the game.
The first three Chukkas went the way of the visiting
side as Lagos Trafigular was up by three to zero by the end of the third
Chukka. The home team would not give up however, scoring its first goal in the
fourth Chukker and then scoring another one at the start of the fifth bringing
the scoreline to 3-2 and heightening the tension of the match.
Just as Kaduna Malta, cheered on by home fans
threatend to level up Bashir Musa of Lagos Trafigular rose to the occasion
scoring the fourth goal for his team. Import, Gustavo Flores, then dealt the
last blow on the home side hitting a long one through the defence of the
opposing side to score in the dying minute of the game.
At the blow of the final whitsle of the match it was
an excited crowd in thousands that thronged the turf to have a touch and
congratulate the players. Pademonium almost broke out towards the scoreboard
side of the pith when kids, numbering over 50 had attempted to get a feel of
the Argentine Flores with his horse trying to break free from the crowd.
Though a match remains outstanding in the cup, (Kano
Glo is billed to take on Kaduna Glo in the category), Lagos Trafigular had won
on the account that the team earlier defeated Kaduna Glo 8-3 in what was then
described as the tournament's most exciting match
Other matches of the day had seen Kano Bugauda take on Port
Harcourt HBS while Lagos Luna milk defeated Katsina Kangiwa by nine to five and
a half goals. Action continues in the week-long event as Lagos Miragewill face Lagos Machine in the Low goal
intercity Cup match while Emerald Holding will face Kaduna Glo in the final
Dickeson match The tournament held at the the Ahmadu Yakubu Polo Ground, Kaduna
commenced on Saturday and ends on Sunday.
