Lagos Council Chief Calls For Obasanjo's Resignation

THE chairman of the newly created Ejigbo local council in Lagos State, Deacon Ayo Ositelu has called for the resignation of President Olusegun Obasanjo, whom he said, has failed the country.
He made the call while reacting to yesterday's Supreme Court judgement.
Ositelu said: "On the score of that landmark judgement, President Obasanjo should tender his letter of resignation, because he has abused his office.
"The judgement, had in unambiguous terms, told him that he has overstepped his bounds. His place could only be secured in history if he resigned. What I am saying is that he should obey the justices, as he had promised at different fora to release the funds to the councils and then resign, because he has failed the people."
The council chief commended Governor Bola Tinubu, whom he described as the "most courageous fighter for the masses."
According to Ositelu, "whether anybody likes it or not, Governor Tinubu is a major force in Nigerian politics; the only man who can look at President Obasanjo eyeball to eyeball and refuse to blink on matters of principle."
Ositelu, whose council had been affected by the withholding of funds, said he was not surprised at the judgement because of the presentation of the Attorney General of the state, Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) at the apex court, which he said was not only superb in law, but very logical and made commonsense.
"As a Nigerian, I had entertained some fear that maybe the President could muscle the judiciary into doing his bidding. You know he hires and fires at will. The risk was that the judges might dance to his tunes.
"But with this epoch-making judgement, I am a happy Nigerian today, whose implicit confidence in the judiciary has been fully restored," he said.
The Ejigbo council chief described the verdict as a mother of judgements, because it concerns over 15 million Lagosians, who have been deliberately punished by one man who has been playing god in his rulership of Nigeria."
"I hope for his own sake and for Nigeria's sake, he will fulfil his promise and obey the rule of law. This is a victory not only for the Alliance for Democracy (AD) or Lagos State, but also for democracy. It is a victory of good over evil; victory of democracy over dictatorship and autocracy," he added.
Ositelu said the development has confirmed one of the worst fears of Nigerians about people with military background.
