Where is the love?
SIR: Where is the love we once shared? Where is the peace we used to have? I weep for Nigeria. All these killings, maiming, burning of houses and properties all in the name of settling religious and ethnic disputes would lead us nowhere. Why must we continue to import arms to finish the rest of us that have survived the economic hardship in the country? When shall we learn that a nation divided against itself cannot stand?
We all must come to terms with the fact that we share our differences in religion and culture, and this knowledge should bring about a true maturity that would foster a peaceful environment for even the grasses in the field to live.
Let us put aside this violence which many times gives us a no victor, no vanquished end, and leaves us limping in the painful joy of a pyrrhic victory with heavy costs on everyone. We should understand that there is no greater victory than the one after an opponent is persuaded into agreement or submission, the result is an exhibition of maturity and peaceful fulfilment.
Let us put aside, cultural differences, religious, ethnic and political as well, and face the truth that Nigeria undoubtedly needs a collective effort to raise it from where it is, to the top. Sink the warships, drop the arms and sheath the swords, and let us direct our efforts to fight till end, the economic hardship biting hard at the neck of this nation.
