FRCN Begins Fresh Transmission on Radio 1 Lagos

Director-General of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr. Eddie Iroh, has announced the resuscitation and re-branding of Radio One, Lagos. Radio One, the oldest radio channel in Nigeria, he said, has commenced transmission on Frequency Modulation (FM) spectrum. Its programmes would now radiate from 103.5 FM. Iroh said Radio Nigeria One in Lagos, would now simply be known as Radio One. It deserves a comfortable position in digital broadcasting, having served the people of Nigeria for 54 years and remained professionally committed to the true tradition of broadcasting in spite of the changes that were taking place in the industry. He added that Radio One would offer a unique style of broadcasting and would continue to distinguish itself in copious news presentation, talk, feature discussion and drama programmes with interlude of variety entertainment and music.å in various idioms like highlife, rhythm and blues, jazz and indigenous tunes. Dr. Iroh aåssured Radio Nigeria’s listeners and admirers that the Corporation would, with the constant support of the executive and the legislative arms of Government, complete all its on going projects that would enable its stations to serve as a avenues for the promotion of democracy, good governance, a virile economy and a united nation. It is recalled that Radio Nigeria Lagos National Station recently relaunched its Radio Three as Bond FM with new transmitters on its usual frequency 92.9 FM. In addition metro 97.6 FM, also from the stable of Radio Nigeria, Lagos National Station commenced 24 hours transmission from 1st of November 2004. Radio One is expected to continue its test transmission until December 20, 2004 when it will return to its normal programme schedule with innovations to reflect its new vision and mission.
