'Critics of Former Aviation Minister Misguided'
By Oke Epia, 12.11.2004
A stakeholder group in the aviation industry, Concerned Professionals Alliance (CPA), has risen to the defence of former Aviation Minister, Dr. (Mrs) Kema Chikwe, saying "no one who has occupied that portfolio before and after her has surpassed the achievements recorded under her tenure." The group made this statement in reaction to a recent report that the former minister pursued a hidden agenda to benefit herself over the sale of Nigeria Airways to a core investor. In a statement by its National Coordinator, Ernest Madueke, CPA lambasted those it described as spent political forces "who are too timid to come to terms with the rising profile" of the former minister. The group particularly blamed "political renegades and never-do-well in Imo State" as being responsible for "various self-defeating crusades to paint the former minister in bad light light," adding that "no amount of blackmail and political calumny can obliterate the formidable achievements recorded by Chikwe while in office." It said Chikwe's recent appointment as a member of Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and her enlistment as member of the reforms committee of the party "were glaring testimonies to the fact that Chikwe still commands the respect and admiration of those that matter owing to her impeccable antedence."
