Yes No Indifferent View results Kaduna Peace Conference: Group Defends Turaki From Iyefu Adoba in Abuja, 12.11.2004 A` non-governmental organisation, Foun-dation for Ethnic Har-mony in Nigeria (FEHN) has said Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Saminu Turaki is a true nationalist who meant well for the country by convening the Northern Peace Conference held in Kaduna recently. FEHN National Chairman, Barrister Allen Onyema, in a statement said "we are all witnesses to the incessant ethnic upheavals in various parts of the Northern region and the conference was convened primarily to seek ways of ending the incessant ethno-religious feuds in the North." "Though the apprehensions of the Federal Government may not be out of place, but had the Federal Government attended the conference, it would have dawned on it that the young governor meant well for the country," added Onyema. Describing the conference as a resounding success, Onyema said any criticism of the conference being sectional is borne out of ignorance of the motives behind it. According to him, speakers after speakers at the confab appealed to the traditional rulers and emirs to work closer with the people and show brotherly affection to other . Nigerians of other ethnic nationalities within their respective domains. He said a broader conference is to be convened by FEHN on December 16, involving all ethnic nationalities in Nigeria where the unity of Nigeria will be celebrated. Turaki had allegedly accused the President of sabotaging the conference by stopping Vice President Atiku Abubakar and all ministers of Northern origin from attending.
