Odu'a Investment to Lift Oil

Odu'a Investment Com-pany Limited would commence the production and exportation of crude oil from the second half of next year as it ventured into oil and gas exploration in the Niger Delta region. Chairman of the company, Chief (Mrs) Iyabode Apampa, who made the disclosure during the celebration of Odu'a Day at the Joint Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Ogun and Ondo States Trade Fair tagged; "Ekiti 2004" in Ado-Ekiti, said Odu'a Investment has already been licensed to produce crude oil from marginal field in the Delta region. According to her, one of the key strategies of the present management is to reposition the company to operate in the strategic sectors of the Nigerian economy, describing Odu'a as the leading partner in Beecon, a consortium of companies. She said the company has invested heavily in the telecommunications sector which has been identified as a sine qua non for rapid economic development and meaningful social interaction all over the world. Apampa added that the company's investment vehicle in telecommunications sector is the Odu'atel, which according to her, is yet to meet the full expectation of the Odu'a states in making affordable telecommunications services available to the owner states. "We are already addressing the teething problems of Odu'atel and very soon high quality voice telephony data, internet and video conferencing would be made available to affordable cost to our expectant stakeholders in Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo States," she added. Apampa disclosed that Odu'a has concluded arrangements to establish a befitting hotel in Ado-Ekiti using the present severe and vantage location of the staff quarters of Odu'a Textile Industries Limited in Ado-Ekiti, adding that discussions are at an advanced stage to start a new textiles related venture within the premises of the moribund textile industry in Ado-Ekiti.
