Ekiti to Spend N20.2bn in 2005

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has presented a budget of N20.28 billion to the state House of Assembly for year 2005. Presenting the 2005 Appro-priation Bill in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, Fayose remarked that the 2004 budget was intended to lay a solid foundation for the socio-economic development of the state, adding that the 2005 budget christened, â??Budget of Collective Responsibilityâ?? would consolidate on the foundation laid by the last budget. According to him, the 2005 budget represented an increase of 19.32 per cent over the year 2004 budget of N16,994,368,770.00. Out of the N20.28 billion budget, about N12.32 billion was allocated to recurrent expenditure while capital expenditure got N7.96 billion. A breakdown of the budget showed that N6.18 billion was allotted to the economic sector while agriculture was voted N790.56 million and rural electrification was to gulp N350 million. N360 million was earmarked for the provision of water, N3.35 billion, for roads construction and N100 million for the construction of 50 low cost housing units in year 2005. Social services sector got N1.27 billion, education sector, N398.1 million and health sector, N478.51 million while information, culture and social development ministry was voted N122.5 million. The Women Affairs Ministry got N16.65 million, Environment, N40.1m and General Administration, N463.7 million. Workers welfare in year 2005 was to gulp N40 million aside from N100 million voted for car and housing loans scheme for civil servants and another N70 million for teachersâ?? car and housing loans scheme among several others. Fayose noted that his government undertook some socio-economic reforms including the establishment of a Debt Management Units, the Due Process Unit, Local Government Liaision Unit, the public service lecture, the improvement efforts on IGR and Ekiti State Economic Empowerment Development Strategy (SEEDS) Document among other. The chief executive officer explained that such efforts were made to ensure efficiency, transparency and accountability among others in the administration of the state. Thanking the people of Ekiti State for their support so far, Fayose appreciated the assistance of all donor agencies including the DFID, UNICEF, WHO, ADB, UNDP and the World Bank Assisted ECKPRA among others.
