FRIDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2004           Gov Odili is `God-sent,' say Rivers Angels players The management of Rivers Angels FC of Port Harcourt has praised Governor Dr. Peter Odili of Rivers, decribing him as ``God-sent''. This followed the release of N8 million to the team to clear backlog of salaries and allowances owed the players and their officials this year. A statement signed by Prince Larry Eze, Executive chairman of the club, said, ``the once glamorous club was heading for extinction because of a lack of funds untill Odili last month came to their rescue by providing the money.'' According to the statement, the money enabled the struggling team to participate in the 2004 NFA Women's Football National Challenge Cup where they placed fourth at the end of the event in Abuja last week. It noted that the governor released the money after a representation to him by the state's commissioner for Sports, Mr. Aliwell Onyesoh. ``The lifeline enabled us to settle six months salary and allowances of players and officials,'' said the statement. It added, however, that the money would not be enough to pay all other entitlements of the team. The club renewed its plea to the sports-loving governor to release more funds to facilitate the club's return to the top. Captain of the team, Regina Akaraonhye and Super Falcons duo of Rita Nwadike and stella Mbachu confirmed received accumulated six months pay. They expressed their gratitude to Odili.
