FRIDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2004           Gwarzo welcomes constructive criticisms from journalists THE chairman of Gwarzo local government of Kano state, Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammad, has reiterated that his administration would appreciate constructive criticism from journalists for development and progress of the council. Muhammad who is also the chairman of Association of local government chairman of Nigeria (ALGON), Kano chapter, enjoined various media organisations to always remember their roles as watch dog of the society. He said" since you are closer to the people we expect to always know what the people want you to tell us when we are wrong. If you don't hide it from us in this way we can adjust and build a better society, because you are the mirror of the society'. The chairman further urged media practitioners to be sensitive in the stories they dish out to the public noting that" truth should be the watch word of every journalist". Muhammad also called on newsmen to desist from speculative and destructed reporting, pointing out that his office would remain open for verification of information on controversial issue. He said that without the press the society would never know the failure or achievements of any government.
