Kano network (KANET)of NGO's has expressed
optimism that with the support of the media, it would be able to achieve its
desired objectives.
Speaking when the newly elected executive
council members of the organization paid a courtesy visit on the managing
director of the Triumph Publishing Company last Tuesday, the KANET chairman
Alhaji Sarki Lawan said they consider the sgnificance of the third estate of
the realm, hence the visit.
Alhaji Lawan who solicited the support of the
Triumph on publicising their activities told the managing director that,
KANET is a newly formed non-governmental organization which is the first of
its kind in Kano.
According to him, KANET is an umbrella of a
group of NGO's based in Kano that include NGOs, CDO and CBOs who met
together and already an election was conducted where the first exective
council emerged.
The KANET chairman, explained that the
organization is much concerned with information sharing, devlopment of NGOs
to cater for the need of the community capacity building, promote governmen
policies and covers alots of things with different perspectives.
Alhaji Lawan pointed out that formaly there was
no such kind of NGO in this part and that warrented some concerned people
among them to float it here in Kano, and with the support of the British
council, Kano office the dream came true.
Responding, the managing director TPCL, Alhaji
Mahamud Adanan Audi assured the organization of all sorts of motivation
through good coverage and publicisation of its activities.
"We will do every thing possible to publicise
and expose the benefit of the general public willl drive from your
activities," Alhaji Audi said.
The managing director observed that though the
move tend to be late but he pointed out that people in the state would
certinty know about the role of the such organisations in the development of
the society.
He said the state government attaches importance to NGOs hence
the establishment of the office of the special adviser on NGOs and it has a
good package for them. He wish them sucess in all their activities.
