FRIDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2004           Kogi spends N2bn on 550 houses Kogi government has spent more than N2 billion on the construction of an additional 550 housing units in the state. The state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, told newsmen in Kaduna on Tuesday that already 250 of the housing units on the Okene road had been completed, while another set of 250 units had reached the roofing stage. He explained that 50 other units were being constructed for the state permanent secretaries, judges and senior directors. Idris said his administrations's housing programme was meant to address the housing problems being experienced by people of the state. He announced that the state government had paid all outstanding leave bonuses and allowances to the state civil servants for 2003 and 2004, while their monthly salaries were being paid promptly. On the state pension scheme, the governor said the government had completed the harmonisation of the scheme and hence the pensioners were ``now smiling to the bank'' to collect their increased pension allowances. He stated that following the harmonisation of the pension scheme, the state government was now paying N48 million monthly to pensioners as against the previous N13 million. ``A pensioner who was receiving about N3,000 before is now getting about N9,000, while those receiving N12,000 before the harmonisation are now being paid about N35,000,'' he said.
