Read! Yayale admonishes workers

The Head of Service of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmad, has called on workers to cultivate the culture of reading to boost their knowledge and capacity.

I am urging public servants in particular and the public in general, to cultivate the habit of reading not only for their professional development but also for general enlightenment, Ahmad said yesterday in Abuja.

He spoke at the launching of a book entitled: Guidance And Counseling: A Management Tool For Enhancing Productivity In Developing Society.

The 116-page book, written by an immigration officer, Mrs Godsgift Nwoke, is dedicated to Nigerian workers.

Ahmad described reading as a tool that helps to build society and enhance knowledge and urged public servants to put their knowledge, experience and capabilities into writing for the benefit of Nigerians.

He also appealed to workers and other Nigerians to buy at least one copy of the book, in order to benefit from Nwokes wealth of knowledge and skill, as well as to encourage her for the excellent literary work.

He stressed the importance of guidance and counseling to the overall growth and development of the country and to solving problems relating to human relations and other issues.

Ahmad was represented at the occasion by Dr. Rafiq Ogunbambi, the permanent secretary in-charge of management services in the office of the Head of Service.

In a goodwill message, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Ufot Ekaette, commended the effort of Nwoke in educating Nigerians on the relevance of guidance and counseling.

I have the conviction that this book will be useful in bridging the gap between the workforce and the management and other problems arising from workplace situations, Ekaette said.
