    ...Aba, Abuja erupt in jubilation

    JAYNE OSONDU, Aba

RESIDENTS of Aba, the Enyimba city, in Abia State and the nation’s capital, Abuja went wild in jubilation yesterday immediately the whistle sounded signalling the end of this year’s CAF champions League.

But the celebrations in the commercial city were marred by an ugly development in which an eight-year-old boy was hit and injured by an obviously overjoyed commercial bus driver.

Aba residents took to major streets like the Azikwe Road, Asa Road, Okigwe road, Faulks road, Aba-Owerri road and Ikot Ekpene road in celebration.

They sang the Enyimba theme song of Nzogbu! Nzogbu! Enyimba-Enyi in sheer ectasy.

At the Ngwa road end of the city, residents trooped out dancing, almost half naked, as both male and female pulled off their blouses, shirts, trousers in a unique way of celebrating the victory.

Many of them rushed to the nearby restaurants and beer parlours emptying their pockets in ordering drinks for themselves and friends.

At the Ogbor Hill area of the town, residents stormed the premises of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), singing and dancing.

Motorists and commercial motorcycle (Okada) riders were not left out of the celebrations. They, however, drove recklessly horning unceasingly to scare most people out of the road.

In the process, the little boy was knocked down by a commercial bus driver as the boy tried to cross the busy Iko-Ekpene road.

The bus driver was driving facing oncoming traffic when he hit the boy.

The victim was quickly rushed to the nearby Living Word Hospital and was being treated by doctors at the time of filing this report.

At Aba Main Motor Park, commercial transporters abandoned their passengers to join others in the celebration.
