Last Updated: Monday, December 13th, 2004 HOME | Previous Page Anambra lawmakers sit in destroyed assembly   By Okey Maduforo Correspondent, Awka   Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Mike Balonwu, has said members would continue to sit in the rubbles of the destroyed assembly complex so as to continue to serve the people. Balonwu also said they would continue to sit there so as to tell the hoodlums that their dastardly action cannot dim the lawmakers’ spirit and resolve to make Anambra a show piece and shame the evil doers. He said the legislators were now using generating sets to operate in the three rooms not torched by the hoodlums at the legislative building. Balonwu said the assembly has set up a special committee to assess the extent of damage on facilities and the assembly complex during the three-day carnage. He said the committee has started work, adding that as soon as their report is ready it would be made public. The Police Commissioner, Felix Ogbandu, said he did his best in the circumstances he found himself, adding that if anybody thinks that a non-Anambra indigene could solve the problem, such person is wrong. “I pray for peace to reign in the state and I believe that Anambra people will work hard to ensure that there is peace in the state,” he said.   Copyright� 2004.
