FCTdenies demolishing Adamawa
Gov’s Abuja homes

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) administration has
denied media reports that it has demolished houses belonging to Adamawa State
Governor, Boni Haruna, in Abuja revealing rather that the governor applied for
a plot of land that is currently being processed.
A statement from the ministry signed by Chief Press
Secretary to the FCT Minister, Nasir el-Rufai, described the demolition claims
as being “baseless and untrue but also misleading” adding that the
el-Rufai administration has never demolished any house or houses belonging to
the Adamawa State Chief executive.
The claim that Haruna’s Abuja house was demolished was
contained in an advertisement placed in an Abuja-based daily last week and
titled “The Conquest of Adamawa”.
But denying that he had demolished the governor’s
house, el-Rufai said: “This advertorial which was signed by Ahmadu
Abubakar alluded to the fact that Nasir el-Rufai, Minister of the Federal
Capital Territory demolished houses belonging to Governor Boni Haruna of
Adamawa State.
The administration wishes to distance itself from
Abubakar’s claim. The claim is not only baseless and untrue but also
misleading. In fact, the Department of Development Control, the
Ministry’s arm in-charge of correcting the master plan has not demolished
any house or houses belonging to the Adamawa State Governor since the inception
of the el-Rufai administration.
For further clarifications, Governor Boni Haruna has applied
for a plot of land, which is being processed. The Ministry advises members of
the public, especially the media, to always cross-check their facts before
going to press as such unsubstantiated statements as Abubakar’s can only
generate bad blood, division as well as distract our leaders from concentrating
on the task of nation-building”.
Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) Co-ordinating
Executive Secretary, Mohammed Alhassan, had informed newsmen a fortnight ago
that demolishing of structures in the Abuja City-Centre was an on-going
activity.
