Bomb blast at Ngige’s lodge: The other story
Following the widely publicised bomb blast at the official
residence of Governor Chris Ngige of Anambra State, there are indications of an
in-house struggle between the “Ngige clique” which may have led to
the bomb blast. Though it is well known that the Governor’s opponents are
not resting on their oars in trying to unseat him, this recent bomb blast has
even made them curious.
It was authoritatively gathered that the Governor’s
personal aides, selected from the Anambra State Vigilante Service (AVS), due to
the absence of police protection, were recently given a signal that they would
soon be dropped since the Governor’s official security apparatus has been
restored. Apart from this development, sources close to the Governor says Ngige
has been worried by the incessant manner in which AVS operatives release gunshots
while on convoy without any concrete reason. For instance, when the senate
committee on State and Local Government Administration visited Awka to inspect
the extent of damage to Government property during the last Anambra crisis,
while the inspection was going on, the AVS operatives started shooting
sporadically to the utter embarrassment of both the Governor and the visiting
Senators.
Having contemplated on how to deal with the unwholesome
behaviour of the AVS operatives, the Governor was apparently relieved when the
Court of Appeal in Enugu restored all his rights and privileges. To this
extent, according to sources, the Appeal Court judgement would mean no more job
and no pay. The source reasoned that the boys-quarters from where the explosion
occurred is the residence of the AVS operatives and they always swarm the area.
So how could it be that an opposition member penetrated to that extent, the
source asked. Similarly, it was the AVS boys who immediately jumped into the
surrounding bush to comb the area. The whole matter remained suspicious as the
inside source ruled out the blast as emanating from the opposition camp.
