Yes No Indifferent View results CNPP Commends S'Court On Council Funds From Chuks Okocha in Abuja , 12.13.2004 Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has described weekend's judgment nullifying the withholding of some local government council funds in Lagos State by the Federal Government as victory for federalism. In a statement signed by Secretary General of CNPP, Maxi Okwu, the coalition of political parties commended the Supreme Court "for on this occasion living up to its billing as the last bastion of refuge for the oppressed and aggrieved; a veritable bulwark against executive lawlessness in our land. "Our greatest commendation however goes to the government and people of Lagos State under the indefatigable leadership of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. At a time when the all conquering General Olusegun Obasanjo had terrorized nearly all into submission,  Tinubu clearly showed that it only takes just one man to stand up for something to roll back tyranny, despotism and even fascism," group observed. CNPP also urged Nigerians to note "the high level of insensitivity juxtaposed by flagrant disregard of the Constitution displayed by General Obasanjo when he decided to capture local government funds due to several states, and blackmail their governors. We had earlier stated that part of the tragedy of the Obasanjo regime is the poor quality legal advice he has been getting from his legal team. In more responsive and credible democracies someone would have owned up to the fiasco and handed in his resignation, but that is not likely to happen here."
