Akume Commends Tor Tiv’s Foresight

Benue State Governor, Mr. George Akume, at the weekend commended the foresight of Tor-Tiv IV, Dr. Alfred Akawe Torkura, which he said has made many friends for the Tiv nation. He spoke in Gboko during the conferment of chieftaincy titles on Edo State Governor, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, his wife Chief Eki, as well as renowned football coach, Chief Godwin Uwua and his wife, Chief Rebecca. According to the Governor, the Tor-Tiv had extended similar honours to prominent people from other ethnic groups among the Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Rev. Jolly Nyame, the Governor of Taraba State. Mr. Akume said it is appropriate royal fathers as the custodians of traditional values employ those values to promote friendship across ethnic groups in the country. Mr. Akume said the conferment of Chieftaincy titles on deserving personalities outside their ethnic nationalities will go a long way in cementing relationships across Nigeria. He stressed the need to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation, peace and progress in the nation, and urged other royal fathers to join the trend. He said with the acceptance of Governor Igbinedion and his wife to receive the titles, Zege Gbenda-u-Tiv, and Mdoo-u-Zege Gbenda-u-Tiv. They have been made the express roads by which the two-way traffic of friendship, corporation and unity between the Tiv and Edo people as well as Benue and Edo States. Governor Akume prayed that the great highways will be those of asphalt and strong bridges that will facilitate traffic between the two states and also serve as part of the wider networks of the national relationships.
