Attah Tasks Indigenes on Development

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Obong Victor Attah, has advised the indigenes of the state residing in Lagos to make use the state’s endowed peaceful co-existence and unity to contribute significantly to its development. He made the remark at the weekend during the Sod Turning and Foundation Stone laying ceremony of Akwa Ibom Civic Centre in Surulere, Lagos under the auspices of Akwa Ibom State Community (AKISCOM) Lagos chapter. Attah, who was represented by his Head of Service, Elder Esseme Essien, commended AKISCOM for considering it expedient to come together under such platform. The governor, who said AKISCOM’s decision to build a Community Centre in Lagos was well taken, noted that the centre would serve as a rallying point and symbol of unity for all Akwa Ibom indigenes in Lagos. His words: “I have followed closely the philosophy behind the formation and the activities of AKISCOM in Lagos over the years and I am glad that this organisation which is blessed with a galaxy of talented men and women in almost all fields of human endeavour has lived up to the ideals of unity and progress which it was conceived to promote at inception.” He expressed gratitude to the people and government of Lagos State for the existing cordial relationship between them, adding that “it is my hope that this cordial relationship would be nurtured and sustained for the benefit of all of us.” Attah urged all indigenes of Akwa Ibom State to remain peaceful, loyal and law-abiding while engaging in their businesses in the state. The event, which was chaired by Elder Edet Akpan, had the presence of Chairman of Agritec Limited, Obong Bassey Inuaeyen, Chairman, Amana Consortium, Chief (Dr.) Edet Amana, Dr. Bassey Ndioho, Dr. Ime Sampson Umana among other prominent sons and daughters of Akwa Ibom State. AKISCOM President, Obong Ibiono Ibom, who described the ceremony as “the crystallisation of a long-awaited dream,” said the association estimated N250 million for the centre and on its completion would promote the socio-economic well being and identity of the Akwa Ibom people.
