Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Abike Dabiri has commended Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State for his effort at giving dilapidated public schools across the state, a face-lift through the rehabilitation exercise of some selected schools in the state. Speaking with newsmen in her Ikorodu constituency, during the inspection of the project, Dabiri, said she was impressed by the laudable project. She said the rehabilitation exercise, was a good gesture to make the schools more condusive for learning, in order to bring out the best in the pupils. Similarly, the Executive Chairman, Special Committee on Schools Rehabilitation, Mr. Dele Onabokun, said the project which would be in two phases, would gulp N2.5 billion. Onabokun said the first phase, which is ongoing would gulp N400 million and is expected to be completed by January, 2005, in Ikorodu, while stating that three schools are already benefiting from the project. He noted that African Bethel Primary School will have an additional six classrooms with offices and toilet noting that Ikorodu Junior High School and Ikorodu Senior High School, which are being rehabilitated is expected to give the schools additional twenty classrooms at the cost of N5 million. While thanking Tinubu for the laudable project, the Principal of the school, Mr. Giwa Farouk said the project was a dream come true. “We are very grateful to the governor for this noble project. This school has been abandoned for thirty years, with this, the school will be condusive to learning”, he said. Dabiri, while rounding-off her inspection tour of the project in her constituency, admonished the pupils to be of good behaviour and reciprocate the good gesture by putting in their best at all times.
