MONDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2004           Gov Sani doffs hat for Northerners over peace conference People of the North have been commended over successful hosting and deliberations of the just-concluded Northern Peace Conference. Stating this, Governor Ahmad Sani of Zamfara state, maintained that even to gather people of different political interests, ethnic and religious backgrounds to sit under one umbrella and talk about an issue is a very great achievement. Governor Sani expressed his joy while fielding questions from a delegation of Triumph Publishing Company led by its managing director, Malam Mahmoud Adnan Audi at the Government House, Gusau last Friday. According to him, the conference has achieved its objectives, adding: �If you have to gather together people of different persursions leaving behind their assignments to discuss an issue that really borders on the region�s peace and unity, which has been trying to elude us is agreat achievement.� He suggested that there must be follow-up meetings and consultations to ensure that the desired goal of the conference is maintained. �The conference is a success by what we have seen, so far the people who attended are trully committed to the peace and unity of the North because without peace and unity we will not achieve anything good politically or socio-economically�. He expresed optimism that everyone in the North will contribute the best he can to ensure the peace and unity of the region. �You can see what happened to us from 1998 to date and I am sure every right thinking Northerner must have seen the light and the fact that if we don�t resolve our internal squabbles and crises, we will not go anywhere and therefore I am sure everybody is tired of what is happening and I am sure everybody in-sha-Allah will come back and think again,� he enthused.
