From MUSTAPHA SAYE, Kaduna
THE National Council of Muslim Youth
Organisations (NACOMYO), has observed that the government economic policies
have been to the detriment of the masses rather than alleviating their
poverty level.
The observation was contained in a communiqu
at the end of a three day national executive council meeting of NACOMYO held
in Kaduna.
The communiqu which was jointly signed by the
national president, Muhammad Lawal Maidoki and secretary-general Kamaluddeen
Akintunde Esq stated that government should consider and embrace the Islamic
ways of poverty alleviation, as the existing system has failed the country.
It added that the spate of corruption in the
country calling for re-invigoration of both the ICPC and EFCC to make them
effective in the interest of the overall development of the nation.
The NACOMYO also called on the government to
properly monitor the disbursement of educational funds towards achieving the
purpose they are meant for, pointing out that despite the colossal amount of
money being expended on education by the various governments, educational
structures are in the state of dilapidation.
The communiqu however called on the federal
government and other tiers of government to give adequate attention and
support to food production in the country as well as providing relief to
peasant farmers by reducing the cost of agricultural machinery and inputs.
NACMYO also condemned in strong terms the continued killings
and destruction in Iraq, Palestine and Pakistan under the guise of fighting
terrorism and advising Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, Jamaatul
Nasril Islam and Southern State Council for Islamic Affairs (SSCIA) to
collaborate to achieve the much-needed Islamic unity for the continued
advancement of Islam in Nigeria.
