MONDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2004           Establish internet cafe, Kano education commissioner advised stakeholders INDIVIDUALS, corporate organizations and stakeholders in the education sector have been called upon consider investment in internet to enable teeming students and readers acquaint themselves with the happenings around the globe. The state commissioner for education, Hajiya Balarabe Bello Maitama gave the advice while delivering a keynote address on the occasion of Kano information and communication technology awareness week, held at the Murtala Mohammad library complex, in the state capital. The commissioner who was represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Sani Abba Suma'ila, explained that the call was imperative as according to her investment in the provision of knowledge is enormous and should therefore not be left in the hands of government alone. Hajiya Balaraba Bello sated that in recognition of the significance of information and communication, the ministry of education has selected and provided some primary schools with computer appliances so as to develop pupils interest in computer education. She also announced that school internet have been made available to some secondary schools in the state that would serve as a source of reading materials and minor research work by the both teachers and students. Hajiya Balaraba then commended the organisation of the programme, which she noted was aimed at ensuring Kano people become re-oriented to think positively, act purposely and develop intelligently.
