Shrine rejects man for sacrifice

By Emma Amaize
Monday, December 13, 2004

OBIARUKU — SOME suspected ritualists in Delta State were stunned recently at Obiaruku when a local shrine rejected the victim whom they kidnapped and took to it (shrine) for quick money making rituals. The ritualists kidnapped an 18-year-old man, Emeka Ossai at Obiaruku in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State on his way to work and took him to a bush for sacrifice.

But miraculously, the victim, an apprentice motor mechanic, who was struck dumb was saved as the shrine was said to have rejected his blood for the intended sacrifice.

Emeka who was temporarily struck dumb was abandoned by his desperate captors who took him to a bush on the outskirt of the town for the sacrifice.

The human heads were said to be required for sacrifice by some clients who had deposited money with the ritualists.

Reports said that Emeka was stopped by the driver of the vehicle with which the ritualists were scouting for victims and asked for assistance to locate a certain street in Obiaruku.

"He was almost at his master’s workshop when they accosted him and as if under a spell, he entered their vehicle and the driver sped off", a source told Vanguard.

It was a dumb Emeka that returned to the mechanic workshop several hours later but could not communicate to people what happened to him other than pointing to the direction he was coming from. He was taken back to the outskirt of the town, where he successfully identified the place he was brought to and a mystical certain leaf he was asked to chew if he wanted to regain his speech.

To the excitement of those who went with him, Emeka regained his speech after chewing the leaf. The police were said to have mounted a manhunt for the ritualists who were believed to have come from outside the town.
